Turkish Airlines resumes flights to Iraq's Sulaymaniyah after 2023 halt

Türkiye's national flag carrier has reinstated its route to Sulaymaniyah in Iraq, reconnecting the city to its global network via Istanbul. The service will initially operate four times weekly, with plans to increase to daily flights starting in March 2026.
Turkish Airlines has reestablished its flight connection to the Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah, effectively restoring a route that was suspended in April 2023. This strategic move increases the airline's footprint in Iraq to six destinations, which already include major hubs like Baghdad, Erbil, and Basra, reinforcing its position as a key connector in the region.
Expanding Regional Connectivity and Strengthening Ties
In a statement, Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee for Turkish Airlines, highlighted the significance of the city, describing Sulaymaniyah as an important regional center renowned for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. He emphasized that the renewed air link is expected to do more than just transport passengers; it is projected to significantly bolster economic and social ties between Türkiye and Iraq. "We are delighted to welcome our guests back to Sulaymaniyah with our safe, comfortable, and high service standards," Bolat remarked.
Flight Schedule and Future Plans
The renewed service will connect Istanbul Airport with Sulaymaniyah International Airport on four designated days each week: Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. This schedule provides multiple travel options for business and leisure travelers. The airline has also announced a planned expansion of the route, with the frequency set to increase to a daily service after March 27, 2026, indicating a long-term commitment to the market.
