Turkish foreign minister lauds Qatar's evolution into a global mediation power

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan speaks to the media on the sidelines of the Doha Forum in Qatar.

Speaking at the Doha Forum, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan praised Qatar's expanding diplomatic role, declaring it a "global mediator" instrumental in resolving conflicts beyond the Middle East. He also reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to regional stability, criticizing Israeli ceasefire violations and offering Turkish troops for a Gaza stabilization force.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has commended Qatar for its growing influence on the world stage, highlighting its transition from a regional to a global mediator. His remarks came during the Doha Forum, an event he described as critically important for addressing international and regional challenges.

Qatar's Ascendant Diplomatic Role

"Qatar is no longer just a regional mediator, it has become a global mediator," Fidan stated to journalists on the forum's sidelines. He pointed to Doha's significant involvement in conflict resolution efforts in regions like Africa and South America. The minister credited Qatar's leadership, including Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, for this diplomatic ascent and underscored the "unbreakable bonds" between Türkiye and Qatar, strengthened by the close relationship between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Qatari Emir.

Türkiye's Stance on Gaza and Regional Issues

Fidan used the platform to address pressing regional crises, particularly in Gaza. He accused Israel of committing "daily and significant" violations of the ceasefire and obstructing humanitarian aid. "Türkiye is ready to contribute in every way to help bring peace to Palestine, including sending troops to a Stabilization Force," Fidan declared, reiterating Ankara's active stance. On Syria, he warned that Israeli policies threaten regional stability, even as Türkiye and others continue to provide aid.

A Forum for Critical Dialogue

The minister emphasized the value of the Doha Forum in bringing global problems to the forefront and ensuring issues like Palestine and Syria remain on the international agenda. The two-day gathering hosts numerous global leaders and figures, facilitating high-level dialogue on pressing geopolitical matters.
