President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev in the Turkish capital Ankara on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidency. The meeting took place at the Presidential Complex and was also attended by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Adviser Akif Çağatay Kılıç.

Türkiye-Kyrgyzstan relations

No further details were shared regarding the content of the talks, but the meeting reflects the continued high‑level engagement between Ankara and Bishkek. Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan, both members of the Organization of Turkic States, have cooperated in trade, defence, education, and energy. Turkish companies have invested in Kyrgyzstan’s infrastructure and mining sectors, and the two countries have worked to increase bilateral trade volume, which reached approximately $650 million in 2025.

Regional context

The meeting comes ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7‑8, where Kyrgyzstan is not a participant, but regional security issues affecting Central Asia may have been discussed. Turkey has supported Kyrgyzstan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and has called for peaceful resolution of border disputes with neighbouring Tajikistan. Ankara also views Central Asia as a strategic region for energy cooperation and has promoted the Middle Corridor trade route, which passes through Central Asia and connects to Europe via Türkiye.
