Turkish Red Crescent serves iftar to 1,000 displaced in Sudan, plans 20,000 more

The Turkish Red Crescent provided iftar meals to 1,000 displaced people in the eastern Sudanese city of Port Sudan on Saturday, launching a broader Ramadan humanitarian campaign. The program was held at a camp hosting displaced families in the Red Sea state capital, attended by Türkiye's Ambassador to Khartoum, Turkish Embassy staff, Sudanese Red Crescent officials, and international aid representatives.

Ongoing Aid Shipments

Ambassador Yıldız told Anadolu that humanitarian materials sent by Türkiye arrived in Port Sudan aboard four large ships in December and January, coordinated by AFAD. Distribution of food and hygiene supplies is ongoing. As part of Ramadan activities, the Turkish Red Crescent plans to provide iftar meals to 20,000 displaced people in five states, along with food parcels for families and Eid holiday clothing for children.

Broader Turkish Engagement

"The humanitarian assistance of the Turkish people in Sudan is not limited to state efforts. More than 20 Turkish non-governmental organizations are conducting aid activities on the ground," Yıldız said. Iftar meals, food parcels, cash assistance, and Eid clothing distribution will continue throughout Ramadan. He emphasized that historical and cultural ties between Turkish and Sudanese peoples have been strengthened through humanitarian solidarity.

Red Crescent Coordination

Cesur Dervisoglu, head of the Turkish Red Crescent's Sudan delegation, said aid operations continue despite the conflict and will intensify during Ramadan. In cooperation with the Sudanese Red Crescent, the organization plans to distribute 7,500 food parcels and 2,800 sets of Eid clothing in addition to the iftar meals.
