Turkish retail sales rise 14.2% in November, led by non-food and online sectors

Retail sales volume in Türkiye increased by 14.2% year-on-year in November 2025, with strong growth in non-food items, electronics, and online shopping, official data showed.
Retail sales in Türkiye maintained robust annual growth in November, rising 14.2% compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The expansion was driven by broad-based increases across most categories, reflecting sustained domestic demand.
Broad-Based Annual Growth Across Sectors
On a yearly basis, non-food sales led the increase with a 15.9% rise, followed by food, beverage, and tobacco sales at 11.8%, and automotive fuel sales at 10.2%. A standout performer was the segment covering computers, books, and telecommunications equipment, which surged 24.4%. Online retail sales also showed strong momentum, advancing 16.6% year-on-year. Overall trade sales volume grew 7.1%, while wholesale trade sales increased 3.3%.
Moderate Monthly Momentum
Compared to October 2025, retail sales rose by a more modest 1.5% on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis. Trade sales volume increased 0.5% month-on-month, and wholesale sales edged up 0.1%. This sequential moderation follows a period of strong prior-month gains, indicating a still-positive but slightly cooling pace of expansion as the year neared its end.
Economic Context and Outlook
The sustained year-on-year growth highlights the resilience of consumer spending in the Turkish economy, despite ongoing inflationary pressures and tightening monetary policy. The strong performance in non-food and online categories points to continued discretionary spending. Analysts will monitor whether this consumption strength can persist amid evolving macroeconomic conditions and policy measures aimed at stabilizing prices and the currency.
