Türkiye has advised its citizens in Iran to exercise "heightened caution" and remain alert about their personal safety due to the ongoing unrest. The Turkish Embassy in Tehran shared emergency contact information and urged nationals to follow official guidance closely.

Türkiye has issued a formal security advisory for its citizens in Iran, calling for increased vigilance as political unrest and a government crackdown continue to destabilize the country. In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Turkish Embassy in Tehran urged nationals to "act with heightened caution" and to closely monitor the fast-evolving situation.

A Call for Vigilance and Reliance on Official Channels

The advisory, released on Thursday, specifically warned Turkish citizens already in Iran to "remain alert about their personal safety" and to "pay close attention to the latest developments." The embassy emphasized the importance of following official announcements, directing individuals to track updates through the websites and social media accounts of the Turkish Foreign Ministry and its diplomatic missions in Iran. This move aligns Türkiye with several European nations that have recently urged or ordered their citizens to leave.

Provision of Emergency Contact Information

In preparation for potential crises, the Turkish diplomatic mission provided comprehensive emergency contact details. This included the 24/7 Consular Call Center in Türkiye, as well as direct phone numbers and email addresses for its embassies and consulates in Tehran, Mashhad, Tabriz, and Urmia. This step is a standard but critical protocol to ensure citizens have immediate access to consular assistance in case of arrest, injury, or need for emergency evacuation.

The Context of Iran's Deepening Crisis

The warning reflects Ankara's assessment that the situation in Iran remains volatile and potentially dangerous for foreigners. The protests, now in their third week, have led to a severe government crackdown marked by internet blackouts, mass arrests, and significant casualties. While Türkiye has publicly opposed any foreign military intervention in Iran, it is taking prudent steps to protect its own nationals from being caught in the crossfire of domestic repression or potential international conflict, especially given rising threats of US action.
