Türkiye has expressed deep sorrow over a school shooting in rural British Columbia that claimed ten lives, including the suspect. The attack at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School marks Canada's second-deadliest school shooting, prompting condolences from Ankara and ongoing investigations by Canadian authorities.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has conveyed its condolences to Canada following a devastating school shooting in the remote town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The attack, which occurred on February 10, resulted in the deaths of nine victims and the suspected gunman, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Official Statement from Ankara
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of life resulting from the shooting that took place yesterday at a school in the province of British Columbia, Canada," the ministry stated. Ankara extended its sympathies to the families of the deceased and the Canadian people, while also wishing a speedy recovery to those injured in the "heinous attack."
Details of the Tragedy
Authorities reported six fatalities inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, with another victim dying en route to hospital. Two additional bodies were discovered at a nearby residence believed to be connected to the incident. Police confirmed the suspect died inside the school from a self-inflicted wound. The tragedy is the second deadliest school shooting in Canadian history, following the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal that killed 14.
Community and Investigation
Tumbler Ridge, a community of approximately 2,400 residents nestled in the Rocky Mountain foothills some 680 kilometers from the US border, has been shaken by the violence. Canadian federal police continue their investigation into the incident. The shooting has reignited discussions about school safety and gun violence in Canada, a country with comparatively stricter firearms legislation than its southern neighbor.
