Ankara continues its proactive diplomacy as Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a call with Germany’s Johann Wadephul to discuss efforts to end the ongoing conflict in Iran. Türkiye is intensifying dialogue with key allies to broker stability amid escalating regional tensions.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan engaged in a telephone conversation with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, on Monday, focusing on the escalating war in Iran, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry. The call underscores Ankara’s growing role in seeking a diplomatic resolution to a conflict that has rapidly expanded beyond its initial borders.

A war that shook the region

The hostilities trace back to February 28, when a joint offensive by the United States and Israel targeted Iran. In response, Tehran has launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes not only against Israel but also at locations in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations that host American military infrastructure. These operations have resulted in casualties, significant infrastructural damage, and widespread disruptions to global aviation and energy markets.

Türkiye’s active diplomacy

In line with Türkiye’s initiative to prevent a wider regional conflagration, Fidan has been conducting a rigorous diplomatic traffic. His efforts include separate discussions with regional counterparts such as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as high-level contacts with officials from the United States and the European Union. These dialogues aim to build a consensus toward de-escalation and a permanent ceasefire.

By positioning itself as a key mediator, Türkiye continues to leverage its unique geopolitical standing to facilitate communication between conflicting parties and advocate for an urgent end to hostilities that threaten regional stability.
