Video shows why Turkey's military op in Syria justified
'Operation Olive Branch' to Afrin

Turkey's Cankiri University shot video to clarify misleading statements about Operation Olive Branch

Turkey's Cankiri University has prepared a video on Operation Olive Branch in six languages to inform international public opinion.

The university shot the video in English and translated it into five different languages in order to clarify misleading statements on Turkey’s ongoing military operation in northwestern Syria.

Along with English, the video about the causes and effects of Operation Olive Branch has appeared on social media with Turkish, Arabic, French, German and Russian subtitles.

Operation Olive Branch has become a necessity for Turkey, Cankiri University Rector Prof. Hasan Ayranci told Anadolu Agency.

The video was aimed at reaching a wide audience through the translations, Ayranci added.

In the video, Ayranci says: “My country is securing its border and wants to return Afrin back to the Syrians. We have no interest in any other country’s land. We will deliver Afrin to its rightful owners that are our Kurdish, Arab and Turkmen brothers.”

According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkey’s borders and the region as well as to protect Syrians from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey's rights based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions, its self-defense rights under the UN Charter, and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.

The military also said only terror targets were being destroyed and that "utmost importance and sensitivity" was being given to not harming any civilians.

Afrin has been a major hideout for the PYD/PKK since July 2012, when the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria left the city to the terror group without putting up a fight.
