The lost grave of Sultan Alparslan
The grave of Commander Sultan Alparslan was lost 800 years ago during the Mongol invasion. Sultan Alparslan is credited with opening the doors of Anatolia to the Turks. Turkish aid agency TİKA launched excavations in Turkmenistan to locate his grave, however the Turkmen administration halted all work in the region when a German archaeology team was caught smuggling artefacts.
