Erdoğan: Post-WWII international system faces 'deep legitimacy crisis'

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan declared Friday that the post-World War II international system faces a "deep legitimacy crisis across nearly all domains," calling for renewed efforts to end tragedies and restore peace. Speaking at the Stratcom Summit in Istanbul, Erdoğan said Türkiye will maintain its principled, peace-centric stance focused on humanitarian values and justice.
The international system established by the victors of World War II today is facing a profound legitimacy crisis across nearly all areas, the Turkish president said Friday. "The post-World War II order built by its victors faces a deep legitimacy crisis across nearly all domains," Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a video message sent to the International Strategic Communication Summit 2026 (Stratcom Summit '26) held in Istanbul by Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
Call for peace
"Ending tragedies and restoring peace and stability worldwide, especially in the region, is more important than ever," he said, referring to the ongoing Middle East conflict that has entered its fifth week following US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Erdoğan emphasized that the current moment demands urgent action to halt the bloodshed.
Türkiye's stance
"Türkiye will resolutely maintain its principled, determined, peace-centric stance focused on humanitarian values and justice," Erdoğan added. The president's remarks align with Ankara's active diplomatic efforts to mediate between parties and advocate for a ceasefire, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan conducting intensive regional diplomacy.
