Exploring Cape Agulhas: a spectacular journey to Africa's southern tip
Spectacular footage shows the breathtaking beauty of Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans converge, on Wednesday. As the southernmost point of Africa, it surpasses the Cape of Good Hope, situated two and a half hours away from Cape Town by land. The name Agulhas, meaning "needles" in Portuguese, refers to the compass needles that point in different directions at this location. The Portuguese sailors named it Agulhas after realizing that the magnetic declination of their compasses was reset at this point. Today, the name Agulhas still remains in use.
