Zohran Mamdani prays & addresses worshippers at Puerto Rico Mosque
New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani delivered a message of inclusion and shared prosperity during a visit to a mosque in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Welcomed warmly by the local community, Mamdani emphasized unity, equality, and affordability as the core values guiding his upcoming administration.
He stated that New York must become a city where everyone belongs and benefits, without divisions over who qualifies as a true New Yorker. Citing Malcolm X’s teachings, he urged active participation in shaping the city’s future rather than passive presence.
Mamdani called for ensuring that every resident in New York has the means to live, feed their families, and thrive. Drawing parallels between New York and Puerto Rico, he underscored the need to protect both communities from displacement and unaffordability, asserting that cities should serve their people, not be treated as commodities.
