150 Sudanese women raped while fleeing El-Fasher violence: report

A Sudanese civil organization reports that 150 women were raped and sexually assaulted while escaping violence in El-Fasher, North Darfur. The attacks were allegedly committed by Rapid Support Forces militants against civilians fleeing the conflict zone.
A Sudanese civil society organization has reported that more than 150 women experienced rape and sexual assault while attempting to flee escalating violence in El-Fasher, North Darfur. According to the General Coordination for Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, militants from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) pursued escaping civilians along evacuation routes, committing sexual violence and detaining vulnerable individuals.
Humanitarian Crisis and Casualty Figures
The organization's spokesman, Adam Regal, provided alarming statistics indicating over 1,300 people sustained gunshot injuries during their escape from the conflict zone. Additionally, more than 1,210 children are currently suffering from malnutrition, while approximately 700 elderly individuals face critical health conditions, creating a multifaceted humanitarian emergency in the region.
Displacement and Overwhelmed Host Communities
Regal confirmed that over 15,000 survivors have reached Tawila town, located approximately 60 kilometers west of El-Fasher, with many arriving in poor health due to injuries and trauma experienced during their escape. The host community of Tawila, which has already accommodated thousands of displaced civilians in recent months, now shelters more than one million internally displaced persons, severely straining local resources and infrastructure.

International Appeals and Conflict Context
The civil group has urgently appealed to international and humanitarian organizations for immediate assistance, including medical supplies, food, safe water, shelter materials, sanitation facilities, and psychological support for traumatized children. The humanitarian catastrophe follows the RSF's capture of El-Fasher on October 26, which triggered mass displacement and widespread violence amid the ongoing conflict between Sudanese military forces and the paramilitary group that began in April 2023.
