At least 18 people were killed, including two children, and 24 others injured in US-Israeli attacks targeting residential areas in northern Iran on Tuesday, Iranian media reported. Fars News Agency, citing a deputy governor of Alborz province, said the strikes hit homes and shelters in the region in the morning. The official said 18 people were confirmed dead, including two children, and 24 others were injured and taken to medical centers for treatment.

Escalating civilian toll

The strikes on residential areas in Alborz province add to the mounting civilian death toll as the conflict enters its sixth week. Qom province previously reported nearly 1,000 civilian buildings damaged and 106 killed. A strike on a residential building in Qom on Monday killed at least five people.

Trump's deadline

The attacks come as President Trump has set Tuesday evening as a deadline for Iran to reach a deal, warning that every bridge and power plant in Iran would be "decimated" if no agreement is reached. Trump has claimed that American forces could "take out" the entire nation of Iran in a single night.

Conflict context

Regional escalations have continued since Israel and the US launched an offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people according to Iranian authorities, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities have not updated the toll in recent days, but Qom officials reported 106 killed in that province alone. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
