Epicenter details
The quake struck at a depth of 120 kilometers, roughly 58 kilometers west of Tobelo in North Maluku province. Deep epicenters typically reduce the potential for widespread surface destruction.
Tsunami assessment
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said there was no tsunami threat after the quake. The agency added that the deep epicenter mitigates the risk of destructive waves.
