Abu Dhabi halts gas plant ops after missile debris strike

Operations at Abu Dhabi’s Habshan gas facilities have been suspended after debris from an intercepted missile struck the site, causing a fire. No injuries were reported. The incident comes amid escalating tit-for-tat strikes between Iran and US-Israeli forces in the Gulf region.
Authorities in Abu Dhabi temporarily halted operations at the strategic Habshan gas facilities on Friday after falling debris from a successfully intercepted missile sparked a fire at the site. The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed on X that emergency response teams quickly attended to the blaze and that no injuries were reported. The debris came from a missile that was intercepted by air defense systems, though officials did not specify the origin of the projectile.
Gulf energy infrastructure under threat
The incident highlights growing risks to critical energy infrastructure in the Gulf as the US-Israeli war on Iran continues to escalate. Since the joint air offensive began on February 28, more than 1,340 people have been killed in Iran, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has launched multiple drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. The Habshan facility is a major hub for natural gas processing and supply in the UAE, a key energy partner for many nations including Türkiye.
Türkiye’s energy security concerns
For Türkiye, which relies on energy imports from the Gulf region, any sustained disruption to facilities like Habshan could have ripple effects on supply chains and pricing. Ankara has consistently called for de-escalation and a return to diplomacy, warning that continued strikes on energy infrastructure risk destabilizing global markets. The UAE has not yet announced when operations at the Habshan site will resume.
