China issues highest flood alert, thousands evacuated

China’s water and meteorological authorities have issued a red alert — the highest warning level — for flooding in parts of Anhui and Hubei provinces. Over 1,800 people have been evacuated, and an emergency response team has been deployed to assess damage.
Chinese authorities have issued a “red alert” — the highest flood warning level — for western Anhui province and eastern Hubei province in the country’s interior, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration. The alert signals severe flooding risks in residential areas.
Evacuations and emergency response
At least 1,805 people have been evacuated from the affected regions. The Ministry of Emergency Management announced that a working team has been dispatched to assess conditions on the ground and ensure that basic needs of flood‑affected citizens are met. Heavy seasonal rains have triggered flooding and landslides across central China in recent weeks, with experts linking the increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events to climate change.
