China urges inclusive Asia-Pacific growth via digital shift green

China has called for a more inclusive and balanced Asia-Pacific as it presses APEC economies to speed up digital, smart and green transformations. Speaking at the first senior officials’ meeting under China’s chairmanship, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said innovation-led growth and openness are essential to address uneven development and keep regional economic integration on a sustainable path.
China’s top diplomat on Tuesday outlined Beijing’s vision for an inclusive Asia-Pacific, urging Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies to deepen digital and green transitions as new engines of growth, during a senior officials’ meeting in Guangzhou.
Call for inclusive regional integration
Addressing the gathering, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said economic globalization has expanded trade and prosperity but has also produced imbalances due to unequal resource distribution. He argued that APEC members should embrace “universal benefit and inclusiveness,” pursue fairer regional economic integration, and steer globalization toward a more stable and sustainable direction.
Digital and green transformation push
Wang emphasized that innovation-driven digitalization, smart technologies and green development are becoming central growth drivers for the Asia-Pacific region. He said member economies should work together to accelerate these transitions while building an open, interconnected regional market that supports long-term prosperity and stability.
China’s role as APEC chair
China currently holds the rotating chair of the 21-member APEC forum and will host the annual leaders’ summit in November. Wang noted that the Asia-Pacific accounts for around 40 percent of the world’s population and more than 60 percent of global GDP, adding that global economic activity is increasingly shifting toward the region. As China advances its 15th Five-Year Plan, Wang said Beijing will expand high-standard opening-up and reforms, offering new opportunities for regional partners. From Türkiye’s perspective, analysts view APEC’s focus on inclusiveness and sustainable growth as closely aligned with Ankara’s emphasis on balanced globalization and multilateral economic cooperation.
