Egypt proposes international force to monitor Gaza ceasefire

Egypt's Foreign Minister has called for the urgent deployment of an international stabilization force along Gaza's 'yellow line' to oversee the fragile ceasefire with Israel. He accused Israel of daily violations and stressed that Egypt will not allow the Rafah crossing to be used for Palestinian displacement.
Egypt has urged the international community to deploy a stabilization force along the demarcation line in Gaza to monitor the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty made the call during the Doha Forum 2025, citing repeated violations that threaten the truce.
Accusations of Ceasefire Violations
Abdelatty stated that an international monitoring presence is urgently needed because one party, Israel, is daily breaching the ceasefire terms. The proposed force would operate along the 'yellow line,' which separates Israeli military zones from Palestinian areas in Gaza. The minister emphasized that the mandate should be peacekeeping, not peace-enforcing, to solidify the current pause in hostilities as a foundation for the next phase of the Trump peace plan.
Firm Stance Against Displacement
The Egyptian diplomat strongly rejected any use of the Rafah border crossing for displacing Palestinians from Gaza. He confirmed the crossing remains open from the Egyptian side around the clock, but noted Israel controls and closes the gate on the Gaza side. “There is no ethical or moral justification to displace the Palestinians,” Abdelatty asserted, adding that only the critically injured should be allowed out for medical care.
The Path Forward and Regional Stability
Abdelatty linked lasting security in the Middle East directly to the establishment of a Palestinian state, with Gaza and the West Bank as its integral parts. He described the situation in the West Bank as severe, marked by daily settler attacks. The minister called for empowering the Palestinian Authority in Gaza to ensure unity between the two territories and for a massive influx of humanitarian aid and reconstruction before the winter. The proposal aligns with UN Resolution 2803, which established frameworks for an international stabilization force and transitional governance in Gaza.
