Egyptian President vows to safeguard regional unity and Gaza truce, rejects displacement

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi condemned efforts to destabilize the Middle East and undermine the ceasefire in Gaza. He emphasized Cairo's commitment to the full implementation of the truce and firmly opposed any plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has issued a firm warning against actions he described as attempts to fracture regional stability and sabotage the fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a national ceremony in Cairo marking Egypt’s 71st Police Day, President Sisi outlined key threats to the region’s security architecture. He explicitly rejected what he termed as plots to divide nations or support the creation of armed militias operating outside state control. The Egyptian leader positioned his country as a bulwark against such fragmentation.
Focus on Gaza Truce and Palestinian Rights
Central to his address was the situation in Gaza. Sisi stressed that Egypt is working diligently to ensure the complete implementation of the ceasefire agreement that began on October 10 and to prevent any attempts to circumvent its terms. He reiterated a longstanding Egyptian and Türkiye-shared principle by vehemently opposing any forced displacement of the Palestinian population from their lands, a scenario that has been a significant concern since the onset of the recent war.
The Toll of Continued Violence
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza reports that despite the truce, Israeli military operations have persisted, resulting in hundreds of additional Palestinian casualties since the ceasefire was declared. The overall death toll from the offensive that started in October 2023 remains staggeringly high, with widespread destruction across the coastal enclave. Egypt's mediation role continues to be critical in managing the truce and facilitating humanitarian aid into Gaza.
