Erdogan announces OIC special program to support Syria's recovery

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced the launch of a special OIC program to support Syria, emphasizing the importance of Islamic world solidarity for the country's unity. He detailed Türkiye's extensive support across multiple sectors and highlighted a new chapter for Syria following recent developments, underscoring the program's focus on capacity building.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), through its Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC), has initiated a special program dedicated to supporting Syria. He stated that the backing of the Islamic world is crucial for preserving Syria's political unity and territorial integrity.
Program Details and Capacity Building
Speaking at the 41st COMCEC Ministerial Session in Istanbul, President Erdogan outlined the program's focus. "Through this program, which will contribute to strengthening human and institutional capacity, we will provide project support to Syria in areas such as training, expert exchange, needs analysis, and feasibility studies," he explained. This initiative is designed to build a foundation for long-term stability and development in the war-torn country.
Türkiye's Role and the Human Cost
President Erdogan reflected on the nearly 14-year conflict, noting the heavy price paid by the Syrian people, including nearly one million lives lost and millions displaced. "Throughout this process, we hosted Syrian refugees with a sense of hospitality," he stated, referring to the 3.6 million Syrians in Türkiye. He affirmed that Türkiye has consistently fulfilled its duties of brotherhood and neighborliness, providing support in transportation, education, security, trade, and health services.
A New Chapter for Syria
The Turkish President pointed to a turning point for the nation, suggesting the atrocities have ended and Syria has entered a recovery phase. He emphasized that Syria's integration with regional economies would yield significant benefits for both the country and the wider region, reinforcing the strategic importance of the new OIC-led support program for sustainable peace and prosperity.
