Erdogan emphasizes Pakistan-Afghanistan ceasefire in Baku talks

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has emphasized the critical importance of maintaining the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan during high-level talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting, held in Baku on Saturday, focused on regional stability and enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two allied nations.
Regional Security Concerns
According to a statement from Türkiye's Communications Directorate, President Erdogan stated that Ankara is closely monitoring both terrorist attacks in Pakistan and the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Turkish leader expressed hope that dialogue efforts facilitated by Türkiye would produce positive outcomes toward achieving lasting stability in the region.
Mediation Efforts and International Issues
President Erdogan reaffirmed that Türkiye would continue to actively contribute to the peace process between Pakistan and Afghanistan. During the comprehensive discussions, he also underscored the significance of maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the necessity of addressing the matter within the United Nations framework to ensure sustained diplomatic progress.
Bilateral Cooperation Expansion
The two leaders also discussed strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, with particular focus on enhancing trade relations, energy collaboration, and defense industry partnerships. The meeting occurred while both leaders were in Azerbaijan's capital to attend the Victory Day ceremonies, where they jointly observed a military parade commemorating the occasion.
