Gaza's Government Media Office announced Monday the dissolution of the Emergency Committee and the resignation of its acting chairman as part of preparations to transfer the enclave's administration to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG).
Emergency Committee dissolved
In a statement issued Monday, the media office confirmed that acting Government Follow-up Committee head Mohammed Abdul Khaleq al-Farra submitted his resignation while the Emergency Committee was formally dissolved to facilitate the administrative transition. The move follows the completion of administrative and legal arrangements necessary for the handover of the governmental system in Gaza.
Preparations for handover
Preparations for the transfer were presented to a national team representing Palestinian factions and political forces, the Higher Committee of Clans and Tribes, and civil society organizations, with a UN observer present during the consultations. The media office noted that the arrangements aim to ensure a smooth transition of civil administration responsibilities to the new body.
National Committee profile
NCAG describes itself as a non-political body responsible for managing the territory's day-to-day civil affairs and is composed of Palestinian national figures. The committee has operated from Cairo since mid-January but has not yet begun carrying out its duties from inside the Gaza Strip, according to the statement.
