Gaza Launches Massive Relief Effort as Truce Takes Hold

The Gaza government reported executing over 5,000 field missions in the last 24 hours, focusing on medical aid, debris removal, and restoring essential services. This emergency operation begins as a new ceasefire, brokered with involvement from Türkiye and other regional actors, comes into effect, allowing displaced Palestinians to return to devastated homes.
A comprehensive emergency plan is underway in the Gaza Strip, with local authorities announcing the completion of more than 5,000 humanitarian, medical, and relief missions within a single day. This massive effort aims to restore basic services and provide aid amid a fragile new ceasefire.
According to the Gaza Government Media Office, municipal teams conducted over 900 operations to restore water and sewage systems, remove debris, and clear streets. Civil defense and other crews worked on more than 850 missions to retrieve the bodies of deceased individuals from the rubble of destroyed buildings. The scale of the challenge is immense, with the statement noting the destruction of over 90% of civilian infrastructure and 300,000 housing units.
The Health Ministry carried out a significant number of medical interventions, with over 1,200 missions that included surgical operations and emergency treatments. Furthermore, governmental and partner organizations provided shelter and food in more than 700 operations for displaced civilians. Psychosocial support was also extended to children and vulnerable groups through over 650 community activities.

The initial phase of a ceasefire agreement, which came into force on Friday, has enabled tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians to begin returning to their home areas. With Israeli forces withdrawing from parts of Gaza City and Khan Younis, long lines of people were seen traveling north on foot and by any available means. The Gaza Interior Ministry forces have been deployed to maintain order in areas vacated by the Israeli military.
The Gaza government has appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations for immediate field support and logistical supplies. It emphasized the need for an immediate lifting of the blockade and the opening of all crossings without political conditions. The reported death toll of over 8,000 government employees killed while on duty underscores the severe impact on public service infrastructure.
