Search operations to recover the bodies of Israeli hostages as part of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel are conducted by members of Hamas’s military wing al-Qassam Brigades, and officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Zeytun Neighborhood of the Gaza Strip on November 13, 2025.

Hamas has handed over the remains of another Israeli hostage as part of the ongoing ceasefire agreement in Gaza. The transfer was facilitated by the Red Cross in southern Gaza, with Israeli forces receiving the body. This marks the latest development in the temporary truce that has seen both hostage returns and Palestinian prisoner releases.

The Palestinian group Hamas has transferred the remains of an Israeli hostage, the latest such handover under the temporary Gaza ceasefire agreement. Israeli authorities confirmed their forces received the body in southern Gaza on Thursday evening through the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Official Confirmation from Israel

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement confirming the recovery operation. According to the statement, the remains will be transported to Israel for a formal military ceremony upon their arrival, following the established protocol for such cases.

The Transfer Process

The Israeli military reported that the handover occurred through Red Cross teams operating in the Morag area, north of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip. Hamas had announced earlier on Thursday its intention to return the remains through this process, maintaining the pattern of previous transfers during the humanitarian pause.

Ceasefire Context and Broader Impact

Since the ceasefire began on October 10, Hamas has released 20 living Israeli captives and returned the remains of numerous others. The agreement's first phase specifically involves the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli detention facilities. The broader ceasefire framework also addresses reconstruction efforts in Gaza and future governance arrangements for the territory, though disagreements persist between the parties regarding implementation details.
