Iran's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that US strikes on southern coastal monitoring facilities constitute a "blatant violation" of the UN Charter and the June 17 ceasefire agreement, accusing Washington's "terrorist army" of targeting surveillance centers in defiance of the truce.
Iran's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday accused the United States of violating international law and a recently brokered ceasefire by launching strikes against monitoring facilities along the Islamic Republic's southern coastline, warning that Washington's actions threatened to unravel the fragile agreement reached just one week ago.
Charter violations and ceasefire breach
In a statement released Wednesday morning, the ministry said the "US terrorist army" had targeted multiple surveillance installations along the southern coastline during the early hours of the day. The ministry branded the assaults "a blatant violation" of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against territorial integrity. It also accused Washington of violating the first article of the June 17 memorandum of understanding that mandates an end to military operations.
IRGC casualty reported
State broadcaster IRIB reported that a serviceman from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy died during the strikes targeting Bandar Mahshahr. The public relations department of the Third Naval Zone of the Imam Hussein Basij Corps identified the deceased as a Basij member attached to the unit, stating he perished during an engagement with hostile drones in the early morning hours.
US cites Hormuz shipping attacks
The Pentagon confirmed it conducted a fresh wave of strikes against over 80 targets across Iran, framing the operation as retaliation for Iranian assaults on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were conducted "in immediate response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," according to a statement released Wednesday.
