Iran holds US responsible for Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has warned that the United States bears direct responsibility for the consequences of Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon, stating that Tehran will defend its interests “wherever necessary” under its inherent right to self‑defence.
Iran has formally held the United States accountable for the fallout from Israeli breaches of the ceasefire in Lebanon, warning that Tehran will not hesitate to protect its interests. In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the April 8 ceasefire agreement had halted what Tehran describes as the US‑ and Israeli‑imposed war against Iran on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, the ministry accused Washington of repeated “clear violations” of the agreement, including continued interference with Iranian commercial shipping.
Ceasefire violations and consequences
The ministry also accused Israel of persistently violating the ceasefire in Lebanon, stating that Israeli attacks have breached Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, killed and wounded thousands of Lebanese, displaced approximately 2 million people, and damaged infrastructure and civilian homes. “A violation of the ceasefire on any front constitutes a violation on all fronts,” the statement read. Iran noted that despite US efforts in the immediate aftermath of the ceasefire to pressure Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon, Washington now bears direct responsibility for both alleged violations of the ceasefire with Iran and Israeli violations in Lebanon.
Right to self‑defence
“The responsibility for the consequences and repercussions of this situation rests with the United States,” the ministry said, adding that Iran reserves the right to defend itself under international law. “It is evident that the Islamic Republic of Iran will defend its interests with all its capabilities … wherever it deems necessary.”
