Iran parliament speaker warns of ‘crushing response’ to US deal breach

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that Iran will deliver a “crushing response” if the US breaches the new agreement or makes excessive demands. He said the enemy “was slapped once in the war; if they follow the same path, they will receive an even harsher slap.”
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday signalled a strong response if the agreement with the United States is breached or excessive demands are made. “In the event of any breach of commitment, violation of the agreement, or excessive demands by the other side, we have no hesitation in delivering a crushing response to the enemy. They were slapped once in the war; if they choose to follow the same path again, they will receive an even harsher slap,” Ghalibaf wrote on X.
Islamabad Memorandum
On Wednesday evening, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,” aimed at ending the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28. Under the memorandum, Washington and Tehran will hold 60 days of negotiations, with possible extension, to reach a final agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme and international sanctions. Ghalibaf stressed that the duty assigned by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is “to pursue the realisation of the conditions and provisions of the agreement.”
Iran’s hardline stance
Ghalibaf’s warning reflects the position of Iran’s conservative establishment, which retains scepticism about US intentions. The speaker’s remarks also serve as a message to Washington that any unilateral reinterpretation of the deal could trigger a military response.
