Iran says 942 schools, 100,000 homes damaged in US‑Israeli strikes

Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani announced that US‑Israeli attacks since 28 February have damaged 942 schools, 100,000 homes, 20,500 shops and 339 health centres across Iran. Rebuilding damaged civilian units is expected to take between three and 24 months.
Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told a press conference on Sunday that 942 schools have been damaged in US‑Israeli airstrikes since the war began on 28 February. She said the damaged schools will need two to three months to rebuild. The attacks also destroyed 125,640 civilian units, including 100,000 homes, 20,500 shops and 339 health centres, with reconstruction expected to take between three and 24 months. Mohajerani noted that citizens whose homes were damaged can access housing loans to rebuild.
War and Ceasefire
The US‑Israeli offensive killed more than 3,000 people, including then‑Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of top military officials. Tehran launched retaliatory strikes on Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting US assets before a fragile two‑week ceasefire was brokered by Pakistan earlier this week, with support from Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Iran also restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Failed Talks
Iranian and US delegations concluded 21 hours of talks in Islamabad early Sunday without reaching an agreement. The main sticking points included control of the Strait of Hormuz, uranium enrichment, war compensation and the timing of sanctions relief. Despite the lack of a deal, Iranian officials have said diplomacy remains part of a broader strategy, while insisting that strategic gains achieved during the conflict will not be conceded at the negotiating table.
