Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps launched three missiles targeting bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq's Kurdistan Region Wednesday, local media reported. Heavy explosions were heard near Sulaymaniyah, though no casualties were reported, as a top security official warned groups not to exploit the situation.

Iran announced Wednesday that its military forces had struck bases belonging to Iranian Kurdish opposition groups located within the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency. The Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, issued a statement confirming the missile strikes targeting what it described as Kurdish opposition elements operating near the Iranian border.

Operation Details

Earlier reports indicated heavy explosions in the village of Zirgwez near Sulaymaniyah, an area where Iranian Kurdish opposition groups are based alongside their families. Local sources reported four explosions in the vicinity, though no casualties have been confirmed. The strikes represent Tehran's efforts to counter cross-border activities by Kurdish opposition groups that have long operated from bases in northern Iraq.

Security Warning

Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, issued a stern warning to Kurdish opposition groups allegedly planning to cross into Iran from Iraqi territory. Larijani cautioned them against exploiting the current situation and taking provocative action, stating that no tolerance would be shown to such groups under any circumstances. The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions following the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which has killed more than 900 people including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
