Iran thanks Türkiye, regional states for backing US diplomacy

Iran has expressed appreciation for the "goodwill" of Türkiye and other regional countries in supporting diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions with the United States. The comments come as US-Iran talks resume in Oman.
Iran has publicly thanked Türkiye and other regional nations for their constructive role in facilitating diplomatic talks with the United States. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated on Tuesday that Iran believes regional countries can play a positive part in shaping dialogue and lowering tensions, acknowledging their "goodwill and good offices."
Regional diplomacy and talks resumption
The acknowledgment follows the resumption of indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations in Muscat, Oman, last Friday, after an eight-month hiatus. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the latest round as a "good start" and held separate phone calls with his Turkish, Egyptian, and Saudi counterparts to update them on the discussions. This underscores Iran's effort to keep key regional players informed and engaged in the diplomatic process.
Warning against Israeli influence
During his weekly press conference in Tehran, Baghaei also addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's scheduled visit to Washington. He urged the U.S. "not to allow others to decide" its foreign policy, accusing Israel of artificially creating a crisis around Iran's peaceful nuclear program. The remarks highlight Iran's concern that Israeli lobbying could negatively impact the trajectory of the ongoing negotiations.
Context of heightened tensions
The diplomatic outreach occurs against a backdrop of escalated military posturing. Tensions have been fueled by a significant U.S. military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated threats from the Trump administration. Iran's gratitude towards regional neighbors like Türkiye signals a preference for regional mediation and a collective approach to stability, contrasting with the current climate of bilateral threats and confrontation.
