One person was killed and four others injured in areas around Tel Aviv after Iran launched retaliatory strikes targeting central and southern Israel. Missile fragments and shrapnel hit multiple locations, with Israeli air defense systems intercepting successive waves of attacks early Saturday.

One person was killed and four others wounded in the Tel Aviv area following Iranian retaliatory strikes early Saturday, Israeli authorities reported. Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adan confirmed a fatality in the Gush Dan region, known as Greater Tel Aviv, while missile fragments and shrapnel struck approximately 10 locations across the city and surrounding areas, causing significant damage.

Multiple waves of strikes target central and southern Israel

The Israeli military detected missile launches from Iran, with air defense systems engaging incoming projectiles in successive waves. The first strikes targeted southern Israel before shifting to central areas, including Tel Aviv. Sirens sounded initially in the Negev region, then spread to central Israel, occupied East Jerusalem, and the West Bank. Search and rescue teams were dispatched to Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, and Givatayim, where debris from a multi-warhead missile impacted. Two people were injured in central Israel, while two others seriously wounded in Beersheba were transferred to Soroka Hospital. Approximately two hours after the initial barrage, Iran launched another wave targeting southern Israel, though authorities reported no additional casualties or impacts from the second round.

Retaliation follows US-Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities

The attack came after Iran threatened to respond to US-Israeli strikes on steel facilities in Isfahan and Khuzestan, as well as the Hendab Heavy Water Complex in Arak. The escalation is the latest in a series of retaliatory exchanges since the US and Israel launched their joint offensive against Iran on February 28, which has claimed over 1,340 lives, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has since carried out waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation. Türkiye has consistently called for restraint and diplomatic engagement, warning that continued tit-for-tat attacks risk plunging the region into a broader and more destructive conflict.
