Iran's IRGC says it struck US air base after reported Sirik Island attack

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its Aerospace Force destroyed a US air base allegedly used to attack a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island, warning that further aggression would trigger a response different in scale and nature.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said early Monday that its Aerospace Force struck a US air base allegedly used to launch an attack on a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island in southern Hormozgan province, according to Iran's Mehr News Agency. The strike targeted the installation hours after the reported American operation against the communications facility on the island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Warning of escalated response
The IRGC stated that all predetermined targets were successfully hit in the retaliatory operation, adding that Washington would bear responsibility for any further escalation. "Any subsequent attacks will trigger a response different in scale and nature," the force said, warning that the United States would be held accountable for any intensification of hostilities.
Strategic location
Sirik Island lies close to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global energy shipments that has seen heightened tensions since the conflict began. US authorities had not immediately commented on the Iranian claims as of early Monday.
