Iran's Pezeshkian: Committed to peace but ready for 'any possible scenario' with US

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared Sunday that Tehran remains committed to regional peace while preparing for "every possible scenario" amid nuclear negotiations with the US. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed concrete proposals have been exchanged and a Thursday Geneva meeting appears likely, describing it as "a good chance" for diplomacy.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signaled Tehran's dual-track approach to ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States Sunday, affirming commitment to peace while maintaining readiness for all contingencies. "Iran is committed to peace and stability in the region. We continue to closely monitor the steps taken by the US and have made all necessary preparations for every possible scenario," Pezeshkian wrote on social media, noting that concrete proposals were mutually shared during latest talks and encouraging signals received.

Diplomatic Prospects

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told CBS that nuclear negotiations with the US delegation could take place in Geneva on Thursday, describing the upcoming round as "a good chance" for achieving a diplomatic solution. The remarks follow weeks of indirect talks mediated by Oman, with both sides acknowledging progress despite persistent differences over the scope of negotiations and US demands regarding Iran's missile program and regional influence.

Military Readiness Context

Pezeshkian's statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and a significant US military buildup including two carrier strike groups. President Trump has established a 10-15 day window for negotiations to yield results before considering military options. Iran has repeatedly warned it would respond decisively to any attack while insisting its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes and demanding sanctions relief in exchange for restrictions.
