Iran’s Qalibaf reelected as parliament speaker

Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has been reelected as speaker of Iran’s parliament. The vote, conducted in person and by direct ballot, chose 12 board members. Qalibaf serves as Iran’s top negotiator in Pakistan‑mediated talks with the United States.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf was reelected speaker of the Iranian parliament on Monday, state‑run media reported. The election, which determined 12 members of the parliament’s board — including one speaker, two deputy speakers, six secretaries, and three observers — was conducted by direct vote of representatives, according to IRIB.
Key negotiator in US talks
Qalibaf is among Iran’s leading political figures and has emerged as the country’s top negotiator in Pakistan‑mediated talks with the United States to end the war. His reappointment comes at a critical moment, as Washington and Tehran appear close to a potential deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and address nuclear issues. Qalibaf has previously warned that Iran’s armed forces are ready to give a “memorable lesson” to any aggression, while also expressing openness to diplomacy.
