Iraq condemns Israeli annexation bills as international law violation

Iraq has denounced Israel's preliminary parliamentary approval of legislation to annex the West Bank, calling the move a flagrant violation of international law. Baghdad urged the global community to take firm action against what it termed Israel's expansionist policies threatening regional stability.
Iraq has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's advancement of legislation to annex the occupied West Bank, characterizing the parliamentary action as a clear breach of international legal standards. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry declared the Knesset's preliminary approval of two annexation bills constitutes a direct assault on Palestinian rights and regional peace prospects.
International Law Violations
In an official statement carried by the state-run Iraqi News Agency, Baghdad described the Israeli legislation as "expansionist measures" that undermine stability and entrench occupation realities. The ministry emphasized that such actions violate multiple international laws and United Nations resolutions, calling for the global community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian obligations by opposing Israel's policies toward Palestinian territories.
Regional and International Coordination
The Iraqi condemnation aligns with a joint statement from 15 nations including Türkiye, alongside the Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This coordinated diplomatic response comes despite US President Donald Trump's September declaration that he would not permit West Bank annexation, and coincided with Vice President JD Vance's visit to Tel Aviv, highlighting complex international positions on the issue.
Two-State Solution Implications
The proposed annexation, which requires three additional parliamentary readings to become law, would effectively terminate any remaining possibility of implementing the two-state solution as envisioned by UN resolutions. This development follows last July's landmark International Court of Justice opinion that declared Israel's occupation illegal and demanded evacuation of West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements.
