Israel secures $48M artillery deal as regional wars intensify

Israel’s Defense Ministry has signed a $48 million contract with Elbit Systems for tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells amid ongoing military operations in Iran and Lebanon. Since February 28, Israel has received approximately 8,000 tons of weapons, primarily from the US and Germany.
Israel’s Defense Ministry announced Monday a $48 million agreement with Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems to supply tens of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells. The ministry stated that production will take place at Elbit facilities across Israel, where thousands of workers are operating in three shifts around the clock under ministry direction. The deal underscores Tel Aviv’s efforts to sustain its military campaigns as conflicts on multiple fronts continue.
Escalating toll across fronts
Since the US and Israel launched their joint offensive against Iran on February 28, the campaign has killed at least 1,340 people, including hundreds of women and children. Israel has also expanded its attacks across Lebanon since March 2, with Lebanese authorities reporting at least 1,238 killed, 3,543 injured, and over one million displaced. Iran and its ally Hezbollah have responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel, killing at least 24 and wounding more than 6,000.
US and German arms shipments
In addition to domestic production, Israel has received approximately 8,000 tons of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment since February 28, the majority from the United States and Germany. Iranian retaliation has also targeted US bases and interests in Gulf states and Jordan, causing casualties and infrastructure damage that regional governments have condemned.

Türkiye’s call for de‑escalation
As the conflict widens and arms shipments continue, Türkiye has reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Ankara has consistently warned that the influx of weapons fuels the cycle of violence and undermines diplomatic efforts. Turkish officials have urged the international community to prioritize dialogue and respect for international law, emphasizing that the protection of civilian lives must take precedence over military escalation.
