Israel transfers Gaza flotilla activists to Ashdod port: rights group

Israeli authorities have transferred activists detained from the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla to Ashdod Port after intercepting the convoy in international waters, according to the Israeli rights group Adalah. Information about their whereabouts and condition remains “severely restricted.”
Israeli forces have brought activists detained from a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla to Ashdod Port following the interception of the convoy in international waters, the Israeli rights organization Adalah said on Wednesday.
‘Forcibly abducted from international waters’
In a statement, Adalah said the participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla—including international solidarity activists, human rights defenders, and medical volunteers—were being transferred to Ashdod after what it called an “unlawful Israeli military interception.” The group added: “Having set sail toward Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge the unlawful blockade, these civilian participants were forcefully abducted from international waters and taken into Israeli territory entirely against their will.”
Information blackout
Adalah said information regarding the detained activists’ whereabouts, legal status, and physical well-being has been “severely restricted.” The flotilla had set sail to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza, which has been in place since 2007. Türkiye has strongly condemned the interception and called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists, including Turkish citizens aboard the vessels.
