Israel vows to keep fighting Hezbollah regardless of any Iran deal

Security source says Tel Aviv determined to sever "operational and political link" between Tehran and Lebanese group.
Israel is determined to continue its military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon regardless of any potential ceasefire agreement with Iran, an Israeli security source said Wednesday evening, signaling that Tel Aviv intends to maintain pressure on multiple fronts.
Severing the link
"Israel is working to completely sever the operational and political link between Iran and Hezbollah," the unnamed source told Hebrew news outlet Walla. "The Israeli political leadership is determined to continue its campaign in Lebanon against Hezbollah until its objectives are achieved, regardless of any potential arrangements with the extremist regime in Tehran." The statement underscores Israel's view that Tehran's influence over its Lebanese proxy must be dismantled irrespective of broader diplomatic developments.
Iranian maneuvering
The source also alleged that "the Iranians are trying to create a formula that would allow continued rocket fire toward Israel if the Israeli army does not stop fighting Hezbollah in Lebanon," adding: "We will not allow this linkage." The remarks suggest Israel believes Tehran is seeking to decouple any Iran deal from the fate of Hezbollah, a move Tel Aviv rejects.

Ceasefire speculation
The comments come amid growing reports that Washington could announce a ceasefire with Tehran in the coming days. Earlier Wednesday, Israeli public broadcaster KAN cited an informed source saying Israel fears the US could temporarily halt fighting to allow negotiations with Iran, potentially limiting Israel's window for military operations. Despite these concerns, Israel's stated determination to continue its Lebanon campaign suggests military operations could persist even after any US-Iran agreement.
