The Israeli military has acknowledged killing two Palestinians in separate incidents in northern Gaza, the latest in a series of violations of the October 10 ceasefire agreement. According to Palestinian authorities, over 340 Gazans have been killed since the truce began.

The Israeli army has confirmed it killed two Palestinians in separate incidents in the northern Gaza Strip, marking the latest acknowledged breach of an active ceasefire agreement. In a statement released Monday evening, the military claimed its forces shot the individuals after they allegedly posed an "immediate threat" to troops, a justification frequently used for fatal attacks that continue despite the formal truce.

Continued Violence Despite Formal Truce

These admissions contribute to a documented pattern of ongoing violence since the ceasefire took effect on October 10. Earlier on Monday, medical sources reported another Palestinian was killed by an Israeli drone strike east of Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood—an area reportedly outside the zones from which Israeli forces had withdrawn under the agreement's terms. The persistent incidents raise serious questions about the durability and scope of the ceasefire on the ground.

Mounting Casualties Since Ceasefire Began

According to the Gaza Government Media Office, Israeli attacks have killed at least 342 Palestinians and injured nearly 900 others since the ceasefire was implemented. These figures indicate that the cessation of large-scale bombardment has not translated into safety for Gaza's civilian population, with deadly incidents occurring regularly. The deaths add to an already staggering toll from the broader conflict, which Palestinian health authorities say has claimed over 70,000 lives, mostly women and children, since October 2023.

The Context of a Devastated Enclave

The ongoing casualties occur within a context of near-total devastation. The two-year Israeli military assault has left Gaza's infrastructure in ruins, with the population facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis including widespread hunger and a collapsed health system. Each new death underscores the fragile nature of the current truce and the profound challenges facing any meaningful recovery or lasting peace while military operations persist in violation of the agreement.
