Israeli forces conduct three new incursions into Syria’s Quneitra

Israeli military forces conducted three separate incursions into the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria, according to local media. The patrols and vehicle movements mark a continued violation of Syrian sovereignty amid reported US-mediated talks to revive a 1974 disengagement agreement.
Israeli army forces have carried out three new military incursions into the countryside of Quneitra in southern Syria, local media reported on Tuesday. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) stated the operations involved patrols and vehicle movements across several villages, constituting a fresh violation of Syrian sovereignty.
Details of the Incursions
According to SANA, a three-vehicle patrol entered from the town of Bir Ajam toward the villages of Bariqa and Kudna. A separate force of 12 military vehicles moved into Saida al-Hanout via the Tal Abu Ghaithar crossing, proceeding to Ruzaniyah and Sayda al-Golan. Israeli soldiers reportedly established a roadblock at a junction near Sayda al-Golan and briefly searched a house before withdrawing. These actions are part of a pattern of near-daily Israeli incursions into the area, which often include detentions, checkpoint setups, and damage to farmland.
Context of Ongoing Tensions and Negotiations
The incursions occurred despite reports of a new round of US-mediated negotiations between Damascus and Tel Aviv aimed at reviving the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, violating the longstanding agreement. There was no immediate comment from Israeli or Syrian authorities on the latest raids. These continued violations underscore the fragile security situation along the ceasefire line and complicate diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region, a concern for neighboring nations including Türkiye, which emphasizes respect for territorial integrity and international law.
