Israeli forces withdraw from northern West Bank after offensive leaving damage and casualties

Israeli military forces have withdrawn from the Tubas governorate in the northern West Bank following a four-day offensive that resulted in significant Palestinian casualties and infrastructure damage. Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad reported approximately 350 homes were raided, over 150 Palestinians injured, and around 70 remain detained. The operation included destruction of roads and water networks, with Israeli forces announcing continued military activities in other northern West Bank areas.
Israeli military forces concluded their operation in the Tubas governorate on Saturday, withdrawing from the northern West Bank territory after a multi-day offensive that left substantial damage and numerous casualties. The military campaign, which began Wednesday, encompassed Tubas city, surrounding villages, and the Al-Fara'a refugee camp.
Extensive damage reported
Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad confirmed the withdrawal, noting that assessment teams are now documenting the widespread destruction. Infrastructure damage includes bulldozed roads and damaged water networks in Tammoun town, with many homes converted into temporary military barracks during the operation. The governor emphasized that approximately 350 Palestinian residences were entered and vandalized during the offensive.
Significant human toll
The military operation resulted in more than 150 Palestinian injuries, primarily from beatings, and initially led to over 200 detentions. While most detainees have been released, approximately 70 Palestinians remain in Israeli custody according to local authorities. The withdrawal from Tammoun and Al-Fara'a camp preceded the full evacuation from the governorate.
Continued operations elsewhere
Despite pulling back from Tubas, Israeli forces announced plans to maintain offensive activities in other northern West Bank regions, including building demolitions in Jenin for operational needs. The military escalation in West Bank territories has intensified since the Gaza war began in October 2023, resulting in more than 1,085 Palestinian fatalities and over 20,500 arrests according to recent statistics. These developments follow last July's International Court of Justice opinion declaring Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal.
