Israeli officials say Netanyahu endangering troops with Litani remarks

Israeli security officials told public broadcaster KAN on Friday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks about military operations north of the Litani River serve no operational purpose and could compromise troop safety, adding that the comments appear designed to advance his election campaign.
Israeli security officials on Friday sharply criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks regarding military activity north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon, telling public broadcaster KAN that the comments could endanger deployed troops and appeared designed to advance his election campaign.
Security establishment anger
The broadcaster reported widespread anger within the security establishment following Netanyahu's statements, which came as activities along the Lebanese front remain highly sensitive. Citing unnamed officials, KAN said revealing such operations serves no operational purpose. Such disclosures risk providing information that could affect force safety in the field, the officials added.
Unconfirmed operations
On Thursday and Friday, Netanyahu claimed that Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River and advanced to “positions of control” in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army has not officially announced any operation beyond the river, and the remarks drew criticism from political opponents who accuse the prime minister of exploiting security affairs to bolster his standing amid growing domestic debate over military strategy.
