Israeli strike kills one, wounds 4 in Gaza despite ceasefire

Medical officials in Khan Younis said one Palestinian was killed and four others wounded in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday, as Israeli forces advanced into southern Gaza and pushed buffer zone boundaries westward despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10.
Medical officials at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said on Sunday that the body of one Palestinian and four injured civilians with varying wounds arrived at the facility following an Israeli airstrike that targeted a gathering of people in the central part of the southern Gaza city.
An Israeli drone carried out at least one strike on the gathering, eyewitnesses told Anadolu, adding that the attack came without warning. The casualties were transferred to the hospital shortly after dawn as Israeli military operations continued across the enclave despite the fragile ceasefire.
Ground forces expand buffer zone
Israeli military vehicles advanced into Bani Suheila town east of Khan Younis at dawn on Sunday amid heavy gunfire and artillery shelling, local sources and eyewitnesses reported. The forces pushed concrete blocks marking the so-called “Yellow Line” dozens of meters westward in the Al-Raqab and Al-Fajm neighborhoods, effectively expanding the areas under direct Israeli military control.

An Israeli military bulldozer demolished several homes in the area, according to witnesses who spoke to Anadolu. The two neighborhoods have seen the displacement of several families toward central and western Khan Younis as a result of the incursion and demolition activity.
Ceasefire context
The “Yellow Line” refers to the boundary to which Israeli forces withdrew inside Gaza as part of the second phase of a plan announced by US President Donald Trump to end the war in the enclave. The line separates areas under full Israeli military control from zones where Palestinians are allowed to be present, and its westward movement marks a significant expansion of the occupied territory.
The Israeli army has killed more than 72,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 172,000 in a two-year war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. Despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, the Health Ministry in Gaza said Israeli attacks have killed over 870 people and injured more than 2,540 others.
