Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon have left two people dead, marking a serious breach of the ceasefire agreement. The attacks, involving drone strikes on vehicles, occurred in the Bint Jbeil and Iqlim al-Tuffah areas. Lebanese media also reported low-altitude Israeli drone flights over several regions, escalating tensions despite the nominal truce.

Two individuals were killed in separate Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry, in a violation of the ceasefire that has been in effect since November 2024. The incidents highlight the ongoing volatility along the Lebanon-Israel border, a flashpoint that consistently threatens regional stability and draws concern from nations like Türkiye, which advocates for a lasting peace.

Details of the Attacks

Per an official ministry statement, one person was killed in a strike targeting an area between Al-Sawwaneh and Khirbet Selm. The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that an Israeli drone fired three missiles at a pickup truck in that location. A second fatality occurred when a car was struck on the Houmine al-Fawqa–Hamila road in the Iqlim al-Tuffah district.

Military Posturing and Escalation

Beyond the lethal strikes, the NNA detailed that Israeli drones conducted low-altitude flights over the Tyre district, Nabatieh province, and parts of Bint Jbeil. Additionally, Israeli army forces carried out a combing operation using heavy weaponry on the outskirts of Alma Al-Shaab. The Israeli military did not issue an immediate comment on the day's events.

Broader Conflict Context

Tensions have been simmering in southern Lebanon for weeks, with the Israeli army intensifying near-daily air raids. These operations, which Israel claims target Hezbollah members and infrastructure, began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale offensive by September 2024. The conflict has resulted in a significant casualty figure, with over 4,000 people killed and nearly 17,000 injured in Lebanon according to reports, underscoring the severe human cost of the hostilities.
