Israeli warplanes hit Beirut suburbs after evacuation orders

Israeli airstrikes have targeted multiple neighborhoods in southern Beirut following evacuation warnings issued by the military. Separate strikes in southern Lebanon have resulted in casualties as the offensive against Hezbollah continues.
Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs during the early hours of Monday, hours after the Israeli military issued evacuation orders for residents across several densely populated districts. The Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that the warnings covered neighborhoods including Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Haddad, Borj el-Barajneh, Tawhidat al-Ghadir and Shiyah. The strikes mark the latest escalation in a widening campaign that has brought the Lebanese capital under repeated bombardment.
Strike in southern Lebanon
In a separate operation, Israeli jets struck the town of Baraachit in the Bint Jbeil district of southern Lebanon, where authorities confirmed that one person was killed and another wounded. The attack came as part of an ongoing Israeli aerial campaign that has also included a ground incursion into southern Lebanese territory. No immediate details were available regarding casualties or structural damage from the Beirut strikes, though the targeting of residential areas has raised concerns about civilian safety in one of the capital’s most populous sectors.
Casualties mount since March escalation
The intensified Israeli assault follows a cross-border operation launched by Hezbollah on March 2, which prompted Israel to respond with heavy airstrikes and a subsequent ground advance. According to Lebanese official figures, more than 1,140 people have been killed and over 3,300 wounded since the current phase of hostilities began. The violence has displaced thousands of residents from southern Lebanon and the southern outskirts of Beirut, placing additional strain on the country’s already fragile infrastructure.

Regional implications for Türkiye
For Türkiye, which shares maritime borders and maintains diplomatic engagement with both Lebanon and regional actors, the continued escalation along Israel’s northern front adds to growing instability across the Eastern Mediterranean. Ankara has previously voiced concern over the humanitarian toll of the conflict and has called for restraint to prevent further spillover. As the bombardment of Beirut’s suburbs continues, international efforts to de-escalate have yet to yield a breakthrough, leaving the region on edge amid fears of a prolonged confrontation.
