Israeli warplanes strike Lebanon despite Trump ceasefire bid

Israeli warplanes launched fresh raids across southern Lebanon on Monday evening, local media reported, pressing ahead with operations despite US President Donald Trump's earlier announcement of a ceasefire understanding between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah.
Israeli warplanes launched fresh raids across southern Lebanon on Monday evening, hitting locations in the Tyre district and surrounding areas, according to Lebanon's state news agency NNA. The attacks struck Bazouriyeh, Siddiqine, Yater, Mansouri and Bayt al-Sayyad, the agency reported, adding that no casualty figures were immediately available.
Strikes defy diplomatic overtures
The raids came hours after US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hezbollah had reached an understanding to halt attacks against each other. Israeli officials have not publicly confirmed any agreement, and Monday's operations indicate that military activity is continuing despite Washington's efforts to broker a pause in hostilities.
Targeting specifics
NNA said Israeli fighter jets struck the town of Bazouriyeh in the Tyre district during the evening sorties. Warplanes also carried out two additional strikes on the towns of Siddiqine and Yater in Tyre and Bint Jbeil, with further raids targeting Mansouri and Bayt al-Sayyad south of Tyre, according to the agency.

Ongoing hostilities
The strikes mark the latest episode in cross-border violence between Israel and Hezbollah. Trump said earlier on Monday that the two sides had reached an understanding to cease attacks, though no formal ceasefire document has been released and fighting has continued along the frontier.
