Kollywood star Simbu’s brother Kuralarasan converts to Islam

Tamil actor T.R. Kuralarasan, brother of Kollywood star STR (aka Simbu's and veteran actor T Rajendar’s youngest son, has converted to Islam in a mosque in Chennai on Saturday.

A viral video showed Kuralarasan embracing Islam with his parents standing by his side, according to an India Today report.

The Kollywood star’s father said he respected his youngest son’s decision, noting he was tolerant of all religions.

Kuralarasan is most famous for breakout roles in films such as Alai and Sonalthaan Kadhla.

He also dabbled in music composition, scoring two films in Tamil.

By embracing Islam, Kuralarasan has joined a growing group of distinguished Tamil celebrities who had converted to the Muslim faith such as Academy Award winning composer A.R. Rahman and most recently Tamil film composer Yuan Shankar.
