Missile debris injures 12 in UAE after interception, officials say

Twelve people, mostly Nepali and Indian nationals, were wounded by falling missile debris in the Ajban area of the UAE following a successful air defense interception. One Nepali citizen sustained serious injuries, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
Falling debris from an intercepted missile struck the Ajban region of the United Arab Emirates on Friday, injuring twelve people, officials confirmed. The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported on X that the wounds ranged from minor to moderate, with six Nepali and five Indian nationals among the casualties. One Nepali citizen suffered serious injuries. The incident occurred after air defense systems successfully intercepted an incoming projectile, though authorities did not specify the origin of the missile.
Gulf states face mounting risks
The injuries highlight the growing dangers facing Gulf nations as the US-Israeli war on Iran continues to escalate. Since the joint air offensive began on February 28, Iran has launched multiple waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. While air defense systems have intercepted many of these projectiles, falling debris has increasingly caused casualties and infrastructure damage on the ground. The UAE, which hosts American military facilities, has found itself on the front lines of Tehran’s retaliation campaign.
Türkiye’s concerns over foreign workers and regional stability
For Türkiye, which has close economic ties with Gulf states and a significant expatriate workforce in the region, incidents involving foreign nationals are particularly concerning. Ankara has repeatedly warned that the widening conflict is endangering civilian lives and foreign workers across the Middle East. Turkish officials continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and diplomatic resolution, emphasizing that no country—especially those hosting large migrant labor populations—should bear the consequences of a war it did not initiate. The UAE has not yet announced any changes to its air defense posture following the incident.
